Department of Computational Inteligence

Department of Intelligent Computer Systems has been erected at November 1, 2012. It was created by transforming the Department of Computer Engineering, which was founded at the initiative of professor Leszek Rutkowski and started its operations on 1 December 1996 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (now Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science) at Czestochowa University of Technology.

The head of the Institute of Computational Intelligence is Professor Leszek Rutkowski, and his deputy – prof. Robert Cierniak.

The team members are three full professors, five associate professors, sixteen assistant professors and three secretariat workers. Under their care a large group of PhD students is working.

Institute as a successor of the Department of Computer Engineering is the leading institution in Poland and well-known in the world in subject of the scientific research concerning computational intelligent systems, and soft computing methods, especially neural networks, fuzzy systems, evolutionary algorithms and decision-making systems as well as their application in industry and medicine.

The staffs of Institute are teacher in computer science, telecommunication and mechatronics.

The Institute is the seat of the Polish Neural Network Society (PTSN), and three employees of the Institute elected to the board of PTSN (including the president and treasurer). President of the PTSN is currently Professor Leszek Rutkowski.

Institute of Computational Intelligence in cooperation with the Polish Neural Network Society organizes international conferences on artificial intelligence. The first national conference called "Neural Networks and Their Applications" was held in Kule near Czestochowa in 1994. Further, international conferences with the same name were organized in 1996, 1997 and 1999, in Szczyrk, Kule and Zakopane. Next one under extended name "Neural Networks and Soft Computing" was held in Zakopane, in 2000 and 2002. Subsequent conferences were held in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 under the new name "Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing". The closest will be held in 2017, and the next – have been planned for the coming years.

Institute of Computational Intelligence cooperates with many universities and research centres in Poland and other countries, including USA and Japan. Among the participants of the conferences are famous, distinguished professors invited to deliver plenary lectures.
