Department of Artificial Intelligence
The Department of Artificial Intelligence has existed under its current name since September 1, 2024, as part of the newly established Faculty of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Częstochowa University of Technology. It was founded in 1996 at the initiative of Professor Leszek Rutkowski, originally under the name of the Department of Computer Engineering. In 2012, it was reorganized into the Institute of Intelligent Computer Systems, and in 2020, into the Department of Intelligent Computer Systems. The current head of the department is Professor Robert Cierniak.
The department is a leading institution in Poland in the field of intelligent computational systems. It specializes in the development of neural networks, fuzzy systems, evolutionary algorithms, decision systems, and their applications in engineering and medicine. The department also serves as the headquarters of the Polish Neural Networks Society. Its staff collaborates with numerous research centers both in Poland and abroad, including universities in the USA and Japan.
In teaching, the department’s staff conduct courses across a broad range of topics related to Computer Science, with specializations in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Mechatronics.
